Building Codes

Model building codes are developed by the International Code Council (ICC) to establish minimum regulations for the construction of homes and commercial buildings. Building codes and standards are a starting point—not a guarantee that a structure is impervious to natural disasters.

This analysis of current residential building codes is based on the premise that modern, model building codes reflect the best available minimum building materials and practices; nonetheless, certain building materials and practices beyond these minimum standards should be considered for optimal resiliency.
